Bart Wuilmus
Bart Wuilmus (°1977) began his organ studies at the Municipal Music Academy of Ekeren with Marc Van Driessen. He went on to study with Stanislas Deriemaeker and Joris Verdin at the Royal Flemish Music Conservatory of Antwerp, where he was awarded his Masters Degree for organ with great distinction in 2000. As student in the class of Wim Henderickx at the same conservatory, he obtained the diploma for counterpoint and fugue. Studying harpsichord with Kris Verhelst at the Lemmens Institute, Louvain, he was awarded his Masters Degree for that instrument in 2004. During this period he also furthered his studies in organ improvisation with Kris Wittevrongel. He has attended master classes given by Hans van Nieuwkoop, Jan Willem Janssen and Jos Van Immerseel.
He is organist of the Great - or Saint Waldetrudis - Church in Herentals, and in this capacity the permanent player of the Verbuecken organ of 1767. He is also responsible for the organs in the Beguine church in Herentals. Under his impulse, a new baroque organ was built for this church in 2013 by Jos Moors and a restoration dossier initiated for the historic Smet organ of 1834. September 2015 saw the release of his rst solo organ CD, which was recorded in the Abbey Church of Averbode and the Beguine Church of Herentals. He is active as improviser with the Schola Gregoriana Cantabo, Antwerp.
As continuo player, he works with, among others, Capilla Flamenca, Vier op een rij, Ex Tempore, Collegium Instrumentale Brugense and the Flemish Radio Choir.Since 2015 he has been attached as editor to the Flemish magazine Orgelkunst.
Bart is also co-founder and coordinator of the Flemish Harpsichord Society. He has composed works for choir, organ, wind and brass bands, which are performed by De Haske and Koor en Stem. Three CD recordings have already appeared of his work Evensong. Bart is attached to the Municipal Music Academies of Ninove and Herentals as teacher of organ, harpsichord and accompaniment.
